Journal Recommendation: Linguistic Exploration
Journal Profile
Linguistic Exploration (abbreviated as LE, ISSN: 2759‑7199 (O)), published by Japan Bilingual Publishing Co., is an international, peer-reviewed, gold open-access academic journal in linguistics. It is a semi-annual publication, with issues released regularly in June and December each year.
The journal is led by Editor-in-Chief Prof. Zhonggen Yu of Beijing Language and Culture University. Its editorial board comprises experts from diverse subfields of linguistics across multiple countries. LE implements a rigorous double-blind peer review process. Accepted papers are assigned individual DOIs and made immediately and freely available online in full text. The journal serves as a platform for academic dialogue across various linguistic subfields and theoretical schools. Grounded in the intrinsic relationship between language, human cognition, and sociocultural contexts, it promotes in-depth research into complex, dynamic language systems. Furthermore, it advocates for the study of linguistic diversity and the documentation and preservation of endangered languages.
The journal accepts manuscripts in English and publishes various formats, including original research articles, review articles, and research notes. Research areas encompass phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, linguistic typology, historical linguistics, language acquisition, and computational linguistics. It places particular emphasis on studies concerning linguistic diversity surveys, the documentation and preservation of endangered languages, and interdisciplinary research in linguistics. There are no submission fees. An Article Processing Charge (APC) is levied only upon acceptance. No fees are incurred for rejected manuscripts, and there are no additional charges for page limits, figures, or tables. The journal strictly adheres to the COPE international publishing ethics guidelines, ensures standardized metadata archiving, and guarantees the traceability of academic outputs.
Editorial Orientation and Publishing Features
In the current international open-access publishing landscape for linguistics, many mainstream journals tend to favor European and American language samples and dominant theoretical paradigms, often providing insufficient coverage of the world’s diverse, minority, and endangered languages. Existing journals frequently exhibit strong disciplinary silos, focusing on single subfields with limited space for cross-disciplinary or cross-theoretical dialogue. Research findings on linguistic diversity and indigenous language phenomena in the Asia-Pacific region often lack a dedicated international publication venue, making it difficult for empirical manuscripts based on fieldwork and endangered language documentation to secure publication opportunities.
Linguistic Exploration strives to form a complementary and symbiotic academic ecosystem alongside existing distinguished journals in the field. It supports in-depth theoretical investigations within classical frameworks such as formal linguistics and cognitive linguistics, while also valuing empirical research outcomes from fieldwork and language archival documentation. This approach bridges the communication barriers between different linguistic subfields and academic schools. With a global perspective on the language ecology, the journal particularly highlights issues of linguistic diversity and endangered language protection. It is not confined to a few mainstream languages but encourages original research based on indigenous language materials from the Asia-Pacific region and worldwide. It welcomes explorations across multiple subfields within linguistics as well as interdisciplinary research intersecting linguistics with cognitive science and anthropology. Breaking down disciplinary silos, embracing diverse language samples and theoretical perspectives, and prioritizing the rescue and documentation of endangered languages constitute the core strengths of this journal.
In terms of publishing operations, the journal fully complies with the COPE ethics framework. It clearly defines the rights and responsibilities of editors, reviewers, and authors, and has established comprehensive management systems for corrections, retractions, and data reproducibility. Fee structures are transparent with no hidden costs. All published works are assigned DOIs, and metadata is archived according to standard protocols to ensure the traceability of academic achievements. Adhering to a stable semi-annual publication schedule and leveraging gold open access to eliminate reading barriers, the journal facilitates the global dissemination of theoretical linguistic research and fieldwork findings.
